I bought 1Password7 standalone licenses for Win/Mac back in 2018. Prior to that I had bought 1Password6 standalone licenses too, as well as the 1Password7 iOS app. I did not want to pay 1PW8 subscription model as I want to maximise my perpetual 1PW7 license investment.

To sync my 1PW data I use(d) the Dropbox (DB) integration across all my devices (Win/Mac/iOS). DB a few years ago did not have a limit on the free option on how many clients you could have on your account. Fast forward a few years to when DB implemented 3 device count limit per account. They allowed grandfathering of existing devices counts, and slowly but surely as the useful life of said DB linked devices end so to did the grandfathered device counts.

Now my DB account has the maximum of linked devices - one laptop, iPhone and iPad. I can sync between these 3 devices, great. But what about if you want to add more computers or even NAS. I have a QNAP NAS with Resilio Sync installed also. On said NAS I have hybrid mount linked to DB account. I have setup a realtime sync job on NAS that syncs with DB directory where my 1PW data is stored. So now I can circumvent the DB 3 device limit and add 1PW standalone licensed computers and use the sync Folder option instead of the sync DB option. All the data syncs nicely and I'm maximising my 1PW7 investment.

I tired several VPN approaches like Wireguard, Open VPN and others. For some reason I couldn't even get it to work over my home network on the same subdomain. By chance found Resilio and decided to give it a try. BY FAR THE EASIEST INSTALL! But the most important fact is that it just worked! Within my network and via iPhone. Need to still test it with a laptop when I am out and about. So far so good. Thanks!

Scenario: I have RS on my office PC and my home NAS. This works great to sync videos that I want to edit at home. I also want to sync videos on my home NAS to my vacation home NAS, but not sync any of the videos from work, not even selectively. Do I need a second account? Can I even run 2 separate account on the same NAS/PC?

Since BTsync 1.4.111 I have been a productive user of Resilio, now with version 2.6.4. Resilio runs on 4 Synology servers, 5 Windows clients, 3 smartphones, 2 Tablets. The software is very reliable, constant observation was not necessary in the past. But the advances in Linux, Windows and Android mean new problems and bugs are coming up again and again. Unfortunately, the update cycle at Resilio is no longer up to date.

Two simple examples with big consequences: The app keeps freezing on Android and the Windows service cannot be installed in some cases.

The former meant that I was forced to weave in Syncthing, which is possible with the right ignore patterns, so that the Android systems work smoothly - just embarrassing. One of the servers has now been completely switched to Syncthing and the coexistence of Resilio and Syncthing is working smoothly.

If the update cycles continue like now, I will have to change completely in the long run, although I don't really want to, but since the administration is correspondingly more complex. In addition, Resilio wasted a lot of time and allowed Syncthing to become just as good and reliable, which was not always the case. It has also become more flexible in terms of features. The only real advantage would be the selective synchronization.

So I say: Resilio takes care of your community intensively, making it the best advertisement in many companies. If you allow Syncthing to completely overtake you, it's your own fault.

Probably a completely obvious fix, but I can't seem to sync two folders which already exist. So I have a folder I periodically pull over to my synology NAS device, I know pathetic & crude backup method, so I've decided to start using Resilio. I did have Good Sync, but it's choking on my server & wants me to buy a 'server license', no thanks. So I have the folder which exists on my PC & I want to sync it with the already created folder (which has most of the contents already loaded) on my server. I can't figure out how to do that and I've watched several tutorials, every one of them just seems to create the new folder & sync it up. I don't want to 'recreate' it. I want to use what is already there and in the location I want it to be in. Advice, recommendation would be appreciated. BE NICE!! ☺️

Not sure why I never thought of this before, but I don't recall seeing anyone else talk about it, or reading it in the documentation. Additionally, a Google search turned up nothing.

You can access Sync's Web UI running on any machine on your LAN by entering ThatMachinesIPaddress:8888/gui.

As a corollary to this: if you use Sync as a service do set a UI password, otherwise you run the risk of giving anyone (including malicious apps) access to your config and files, which is really bad.

Here's my problem - I've got two laptops at my work desk, my "main" one runs Ubuntu 18.04 which I bring from home (it's my personal laptop, but most days leave it at work because I can't be bothered lugging it during my daily commutie), the other runs Windows 10 supplied by work (pretty much just use it for skype 4 business and couple of nasty proprietary windows only "service desk" applications)...

The Ubuntu host NEVER seems to sync with my stuff at home when located at the office - but strangely enough, sometimes the Windows 10 sync does get updates "over the cloud" from my home network.

So - I bought a "tiny" 256 GB USB 3.1 thumb drive - and inserted it into my Banana Pi (m1) running Armbian. I've soldered battery terminals and a LIPO onto the board. This is the "original" Banana Pi (model 1?) A20 dual core, 1 GB RAM, pretty much running headless...

I take that home every day and bring it back into work the next day - and (Resilio Sync) sync over ethernet in both cases (work's wifi is flakier than my home wifi and the Banana doesnt have wifi anyway)... Battery (2700 mah?) drops to 63% capacity during my 45-60 minute commute... so I reckon I'd probably get 3 hours out of it if pushed...

So - no mattter what corporate firewall rules are in place - my data is sync'd ... it's nearly all just a subset of my music collection, documents and shell scripts... I've got a license for Sync Pro, but I don't use selective sync, just three separate sync folders (shell scripts, documents, Music)...

So I mentioned this on the old forum but I'll mention it again, plus a couple other items I am now doing.

I have a few NAS type servers (most are off site) build with FreeBSD, an awesome OS I might add, check it out! I have security cameras that send pictures to a folder on the NAS. BTsync simply syncs to each server, and those sync to our cell phones. If the alarm company calls we have pictures on our phones. Also in the event the NAS was found and stolen or destroyed, copies of the bad guys are already off site.

Our library of family moments (pictures and videos) are replicated to the off site servers. Those servers use Minidlna to stream the libraries to smart TVs. So our parents who live in other parts of the world can enjoy our pictures and videos simply using the TV remote control.

Side benefit of using BTsync - since my NAS is replicated to off-site servers if my home server were to suffer a catastrophic failure or be destroyed in fire for example I have multiple copies already off-site that I can use. (Note since i use read/write mode everywhere for various reasons, I also use external drives to make rotating copies off-site, just in case somehow a "rm -r *" type boo boo is done.)

(Shameless promotion - I realize there are a lot of folks here that use various OSs, but if you are in the mood to try something truly refreshing, rock solid architecture, etc you should give FreeBSD a try. Its a direct descendant of the BSD type UNIX and if you have a open mind I believe you won't be disappointed.)

Edit 2018-07-20 - I realize now I failed to mention the Synth stuff. Synth is a program that is used to compile/build other programs for FreeBSD. Some of my other machines are older so less powerful CPUs. So what I do is I use Synth with profiles on the more powerful machine to build the programs. But how does it know what to build? Easy, thanks to Bittorrent Sync (now Resilio) a copy of the target machine files is on the builder machine. Here is the beauty part: lets say you have 50 identical target machines. Sync up the require folders, let Synth do its thing and after completion go to each traget machine and have its local Synth or PKG do the upgrade. Slick!!

I'm sure some one has done it, but I couldn't find from searching that anyone has. I successfully synched my Internet Explorer favorites between my laptop and desktop. I have always been frustrated by saving a favorite on one machine, then having to dig up the link to save it on the other machine. No more!

The devices do not. That is because the server generates the catalogue-webpage in /catalogue. The devices create a hidden appended worklist within the webpagefile which the server analyses. Thereby the only place where changes can be made is on the server, which prevents synchronization conflicts of the file catalogue. Other files may be updated asynchronously but that will influence the content of the file, not the location - which is what the BTsyncApp looks for.

HTML view

When a given file is not on the device, the link [get] is bold.

If I click on the link [get], the htmlfile is saved, with a setting “get” for the filename. The htmlfile is then delta-synced effectively using BTsync, whereby a python script on the NAS will discover the delta and will trigger python to create a hard link from the NAS to the BTsync folder of the device. Very simple.

For example: On HTCphone [get] “drive/folder/name.ext” will hard link /BTsync/files/drive/folder/name.ext to /BTsync/devices/HTCphone which is BTsync’ed with the phones folder /BTsync/files/. So after the hard-link is established, the file is automatically downloaded to the phone.

The same occurs if I [get] a folder: The hard link implies that the rest of the tree should be synchronized.

Warning: (because of fumbling I have learned to prompt a “confirm/cancel box” in the webpage with very large buttons).

When the synchronization is completed, the python script on the NAS updates the webpage-file and synchronizes it across all devices.

At this point in time the file should have been synced to my device, and the link [open] is changed in the htmlcode to bold, whilst the link [get] is normal, i.e. no longer bold.

Of course, if it is a large volume of data, and I want to know how far my download is in the meantime, I can just open the BTsync application and see what it is doing.

Now if I chose to delete a file in BTsync on a device, the local file is of course removed, but on the NAS only the hard-link is removed from the particular device folder.

So for example: me@linux$ rm /home/me/BTsync/files/drive/folder2/name2.ext will delete name2.ext locally, and the NAS will follow by removing the hard link.

The file itself is not deleted from files/drive/filder2/name2.ext only the hard link for the device. Hereby the field [open] is changed to [get]. I’m sure this could be done using some internal mechanism in BTsync, but I don’t know how.

Share with others

If I want to share a particular file with somebody else (this is the cool thing) I press the hyperlink [share]. This prompts the python script to create a folder in /BTsync/shared/ with the sha1hash of the file concatenate with the time, which it adds to BTsync’s list of synchronized folders using command line instructions. Example:

/BTsync/shared/c191687881d9345c914186591ea850f7c1efb63c-2013-10-28-235959/

This is because it permits me to share the same file to multiple persons with different folders and will maintain the ability to revoke them individually.

Next, the python script creates a hard link from the file to the shared folder, which is then ready for remote access using the read-only “secret”. If a device requires files to be synced/download for which there is no space, then this option will permit the application to take the least used, oldest files and remove them from the device to make space for the newly required file. The removed files will still be available on the NAS. Function that maps the device IP address, for multiple NAS, so that all files are available in different netzones. The initial idea is to use the first three ip-address digits (ip://a.b.c.x) to assure availability in different zones. Hereby if one ip-provider cuts the network to the NAS in zone a.b.c, the files can be available from another zone (x.y.z). I observed that I don't like to read longer texts in the browser, so maybe my readers also don't like to read my texts if they grew longer. Further, I hope to get a closer relationship to my readers by using BitTorrent Sync. In 1998, when I started to blog on http://www.sudelbuch.de people could subscribe to a mailing list, and I distributed my postings via email too. This was a very personal approach and I got many comments.

If you know German and want to subscribe to my eBook BTSync serial, please click here!

As I am quite new to BTSync I would be grateful for your comments. I am going to update this posting as soon as I made my first experiences.

Deploy Docker Image Fast Beetween Server

I'am deploying docker image faster with btsync on numerous server.

thanks

Btsync With Vnc

A while back I was helping my uncle troubleshoot some problems on his PC. I had my uncle - the type of person that doesn't know what a right-click is - install a VNC server program on his desktop so that I could help him out a bit better. Having him install it and enable port forwarding was only half of the work, getting him to find his external IP address, as simple as it is, was the other half. Whenever I helped him, he would always have to find that external IP address since it would change every month or so. So BTSync is now helping me with this.

The solution: instead of having a paid service to take care of the dynamic IP (like No-IP.org), I wrote a small script to be run on the VNC server PC that will be hidden from view and poll every so often to see if the external IP has changed. If it has, it will write the IP address to a simple text file, and sync it right on over to my box 1100 miles away. On my end, (the VNC viewer end,) I have another script that integrates nicely with VNC so that his current IP address is always in the drop-down menu of server selections in the viewer.

It's definitely a hack, and there's probably an easier way to do it, but sometimes it's just the fun of making something work - even if it is the hard way.

Bridge Bittorrent Sync With Other Apps For Automation On A New Os

Hello,

We are a software OS team trying to bridge different apps to work simultaneously.

We have ported BitTorrent Sync so that it can be paired or grouped with other apps.

You can try out live right from your web browser.

demo.myprota.com

Bittorrent Sync may not be available on demo but it is available on our OS for Raspberry Pi.

You can download the OS image and run it on a Raspberry Pi so that you can have a private machine dedicated for your apps. You guys are great; thanks for all your work.

Over the past couple weekends, I've put together a site that gives me public access to my sync folders. Did this for a couple reasons.....

1. My computers are seldom on at the same time (when I go to work, my laptop goes to sleep, when I come back home, my work computer gets disconnected from the internet, phone has limited space), and I needed an 'always online' node.

2. I wanted read/write access to my shares without having to sync on the local device.

3. I'd like to start experimenting with some RSS type feature (subscribe to feeds with shares).....needed a testing playground and this had some overlap.

https://www.btcloudsync.com

I'm waiting with bated breath for encrypted nodes so I can approach these requirements from a TNO perspective.....but looks like we're a few weeks away from that happening. In the meantime.....feel free to use this if it suits your needs.

Sync Film Elements With Vfx Team

Share footage and editorial between members of our VFX unit.

> Red Camera (Scarlet) R3D footage from cinematographer

> Pro Rez conversions from editor

> AfterEffects renders from VFX

> Shares are located on 3 geographically distant Synology Servers synced via BTSync 1.4.103-9

> Reviewing other use cases opportunistically.

Thanks - we love it.
